Megafauna & Barefoot Dancing

Ephemeral Prairie Music

Donation

Service Description

Megafauna plays ephemeral prairie music: improvisational string compositions on violin, viola, guitar, and upright bass. Originally inspired by a KU professor’s film project about the Tallgrass prairie, they create spontaneous compositions that are rooted in the natural history of Kansas. The topsoil that has sustained human life here for thousands of years was formed in part through the symbiosis of large mammals, the megafauna, and prairie plants in the Pleistocene era. We celebrate the giant sloth, the mammoth, the bison, et al., and conjure up meditative pieces of music in their honor.
